Webworm Wins "Best Team Investigation" at Voyagers
New Zealand's media awards took place last night in Auckland, New Zealand.
Hi,
Just a quick online-only update that Webworm won “Best Team Investigation” last night at the Voyagers.
This means a lot, especially considering we were up against giant newsrooms like Stuff and TVNZ:
WINNER: David Farrier and Hayden Donnell | Webworm – The Downward Spiral of Arise Church
JUDGES: Alan Sunderland and Ali Ikram
“This story was the result of a sustained investigation involving multiple sources, and was pursued despite strong resistance and push back. It was widely followed up by other media outlets and a major impact, leading to the resignation of key figures in the church. A thorough and compelling journalistic investigation.”
FINALISTS:
Kristin Hall, Del Byast, Andrew Dalton and Tory Evans | TVNZ – Golden Mile
Hannah Martin, Blair Ensor, Edward Gay, Catrin Owen and James Halpin | Stuff – Imposter doctor forged documents to gain employment
Mike White and Blair Ensor | Stuff – Police CIPEM interviewing technique
I feel really proud of this — and very happy to lose “Best Scoop” to John Campbell, because John’s interview with Peter Ellis was incredible.
Thanks to Webworm contributor Hayden Donnell for your help on this one.
Thanks for supporting Webworm — either financially, or just by reading and spreading word of its existence!
It’s all possible thanks to you.
David.
Fantastic news and great work. Given what it took to get these stories you totally deserve the recognition and award.
Very much deserved!
Unfortunately, now that you are part of the ‘bought and paid for’ MSM, you’re dead to me.
