Hi,

If you’ve been reading Webworm for a while, you’ll be familiar with Anna Wilding.

Between 2020 and 2021 I looked at how the New Zealander had managed to weasel her way into countless news stories over the years, often with very little proof any of it had actually happened. When I say “over the years”, I actually mean for a quarter of a century.

There was the time she was cast in a major US film, the time she was a White House Presidential photographer, and the time she was part of the Harvey Weinstein scandal.

So maybe I shouldn’t have been surprised at the latest headline from Stuff.co.nz:

"Kiwi film-maker Anna Wilding loses future home in LA fires"

At times I’ve almost come to admire the creative ways Wilding inserts herself into the news — but this one was pushing it.

“Kiwi film-maker, producer and exhibiting photographer Anna Wilding has lost her future home to the wildfires burning in Los Angeles, 14 years after her family home in Christchurch was partly destroyed in the 2011 earthquake.”

If you read the whole thing in passing, you might not think twice — but once you know what’s going on, like nearly all of her stories, it’s just all so transparently bullshit. In this particular story, it’s the “future home” that got me.

Her house "largely burnt down"

She hasn’t lost a home. She’s lost a “future home.”

Read on, and it’s not her home. It’s a rental.

“Wilding says she was due to move into a rental property in the Pacific Palisades area of LA, until the wildfires - which have killed at least 16 people and placed over 100,000 residents under evacuation orders - tore it down.”

Essentially, at best, the story is that she was planning to move to an area that is now burnt down.

And I strongly doubt that plan ever existed.

Why is this even being reported? Part of it has to do with New Zealand’s desperation to include New Zealanders when reporting any kind of overseas event.

Wilding also does what she always does with these stories: She supplies the photos to the outlet (notice most photos in news stories about her are credited “SUPPLIED”), before rehashing all the previous press she’s gotten to add validity.

“Wilding was based in the White House from 2015-2017.”

It’s almost as if every story about her increases her power to keep inserting herself into even more stories. A Russian nesting doll, but all the dolls are made of horse shit.

In the middle - Anna Wilding and her alleged husband James Sved in 2013.

When I started tracking the Wilding stories back in 2020, it was sort of amusing. But by this point — inserting herself in the Weinstein narrative where people were actually raped, and now the Californian fires where people are currently dying — please just stop it already.

And can New Zealand newsrooms please just take notice of what I’m writing, and stop reporting on this shit?

It’s been going on a quarter of a century now.

The mysterious Matt Obolensky
Hi, This is a very strange Webworm which ends up in some familiar Webworm places. You’ve been warned. Stick with it. Maybe leave it for your Sunday morning long read in bed.
