Hey you lot - just a quick note to say I'm usually stoked with dialogue in the comments - but a few non-subscribers coming in here to mouth off, in a fairly offensive way. I don't do this newsletter to fight, and I don't want you reading gross stuff in the comments -- which is why I am gently doing a few bans. Much kudos, and I hope you're all keeping extra safe out there,

David.

I'm a current student of MCS and I have some things to "state". He believed that what he had done was justified and that he should treat what had happened with little to no care. He had brought up the event and what had happened to him saying, (slight paraphrasing) "I was pushed around by my collar and my hat was stolen off of me. I was only there for less then half an hour and I was almost beaten up just for wearing a hat. I believe people should care about things for how much they are worth caring about. I was wearing a hat. So eh, I don't care that much." After light research, I have found numerous evidence against the things he claims such as "The Black Lives Matter movement is racist" and I believe that he wore that hat to the rally in attempts to anger people because he teaches many things which involves some kind of political standpoint, hence he should have understood the meaning of MAGA.

Apologies if this is a random cluster of words and opinions making it difficult to read, I just wanted to convey something on the matter

(P.S Black Lives Matter)

Hi lovely readers,

There's been spirited discussion, but it's beginning to look like a YouTube comments section in here! So... I'm turning off comments for this thread as the grossness has sort of maxed out.

I know it's been an incredibly rough time for many financially, just in normal life -- let alone this Covid-19 reality -- but if you want to help, give if you are able.

I chose to donate to the Minnesota Freedom Fund (https://minnesotafreedomfund.org/donate), which is currently on pause as it handles the $20 million or so that's come in (!!!)

So... this link provides a bunch of other places you can donate to:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1yLWGTQIe3967hdc9RSxBq5s6KKZHe-3_mWp5oemd7OA/preview?pru=AAABcpUiX3k%2AY6Q4I6UBtkH3lLz9GVLg0A

I know all eyes are on America right now -- at least in my lil' world at the moment - but there are problems of inequality everywhere. And you should choose to give to what you connect with: Hong Kong is going through some shit right now.

Close to home, I am a fan of Just Speak (https://www.justspeak.org.nz/donate) - a youth-movement for change in the criminal justice system, towards a more compassionate Aotearoa.

And as this particular teacher in my column reminded me -- as he rallied against the "LGBT" (his words) community -- RainbowYOUTH are in need of help.

They work with queer, gender diverse, takatāpui & intersex youth, their friends & whānau in order to ensure that New Zealand is a place where all young people can thrive. You can donate here: https://ry.org.nz/donate

Please stay healthy, keep speaking up for injustice and those that have less of voice than you do.

And just be kind. We're all in this together.

David.

“The reason I walked away on Christianity as it exists today is because of stuff like this. It was getting embarrassing. I couldn’t be a part of a thing that increasingly seemed to be turning its back on some of the most vulnerable people in society.”

This is my experience too. I went to a catholic high school and was pretty open minded about religion. Then, at 14, I was threatened with suspension for asking questions about contraception & abortion. I was told that my teacher could’ve lost her job. I was ordered to ‘stop making trouble’. I had genuine questions, I was a curious teenager. And 3 girls in my class were already pregnant.

I’m also plotting a bisexual revolution if you wanna compare notes.

This is embarrassing, I'm a Christian, and I am deeply offended by this teacher and this school!I'm ashamed that these people call themselves believers; Faith is the opposite of what they profess! That's disgusting, I hope the parents do something immediately

Thanks for this. MCS looks like a culturally diverse school - I would be deeply concerned if I were a parent of one of these students. I hope the principal and other teachers know it and are unafraid to say it: Black lives matter.

Meanwhile, I had a look at the guy's public FB profile and there's a lot of ignorant shit - about slavery and race, about LGBT, about abortion. It's kind of upsetting - and confusing - to see another brown person aligning himself with the views of the hard right. But some of his friends do try to challenge him - I hope he can open his mind to listen to some of them.

(And I know it's a minor point given everything going on, but I also hope the school remembers to teach its kids about plagiarism.

Ae , Tika , he was just there to provoke the peaceful protesters , so that he could push his VERY unchristian agenda . Some lives matter more than others . This brand of Christianity is cruel .

Yikes at that so-called course - it’s filled with so many contradictory statements. Alarming that this kind of person is in a position of influence over kids.

I also am here, plotting my bisexual revolution. Doing my shop, revolution. Patting my cat, revolution. Absolutely destroying western society I am.

The idea of Ben Shapiro being taught in any way at school is alarming. Wonder if it has a module about calling someone a leftie and cracking the shits and trying to leave.

"we’re just trying to represent a diverse range of opinions" ugh, of course he did. Bet he had the classic "can't we have a logical, unemotional discussion?" Up his sleeve too. They're very good at not being to read a room (or protest) and realise they made themselves look like a dickhead.

The guy did just wear a hat, but thanks for writing this because what the hat symbolizes, represents, stands for today is not only/simply Make America Great Again ... it is very much about the hat, and where he wore it, and wearing it in NZ is not OK ... unless you're a racist and don't mind people calling you out on it. Karl Popper has that cool saying (googled it lol) "In order to maintain a tolerant society, the society must be intolerant of the intolerant". I know your critics will flip that David Farrier, but to me, speaking truth to power is good mahi. I support your intolerance of this intolerance.
