There is deep satisfaction in watching justice being delivered to a group of people who appear convinced that no harm was or is being caused. Witness the crumbling empire. Thank you, David 🙏🏻

Brent Cameron = hand farter

Not especially relevant here but I am doing my best to raise awareness.

Good!!! I wonder if the Gloriavale employment case will similarly find that they are exploiting their people... About time these religious groups were held to account.

I watched the latest doco on the 3 now app. So heartbreaking. Glad those slave drivers are going to be exposed and hopefully punished.

I remember watching the propaganda versions of Gloriavale docos in high school and thinking how fucked up it was. The people in the community making so much money for the leaders and getting nothing back but an empty promise to the good place when they die….

Good people. It's nice to interact with an entity that actually wants to engage. Rare, but nice when it happens.

Unfortunately some interesting reading from Charities office website. Of the 7 named trustees, 5 have only been appointed in last 6 months, and 1 has been there 10 months. ( the 7th one was a trustee for a few months in 2022 but was removed from list in December 2022. ) also interesting is that on 12April 2022, Brent and John Cameron removed themselves as trustees, and 6 days later, the remaining 4 trustees signed a deed amendment making them responsible for the church’s activities. Of those 4 trustees, only one remains and is named- Kylie Fletcher ( who had just been appointed at that time) The status of Graeme Kirkwood is unclear, he is not named as trustee in the recent list, but is not showing as having been removed. Also two other trustees were appointed and removed in 2022. Trouble at mill? Makes you wonder if they are patsy’s?

Just to clarify, by stood down, do we mean they can’t work/ they’re suspended from their roles? Or just that they can’t employ migrant workers? The term is a little confusing

No - I was murky on this too. It means "stood down" from being able to issue visas and deal with migrant workers etc. Very specific.

But it is a terrible look for them. It's a serious workplace thing.

I was covering the Gloriavale employment court case in Greymouth earlier this week, and although I feel like it’s a bit of a side show to the major problems Gloriavale has had (and still has) it did make me wonder about the implications for mega churches treating volunteers as badly as Arise does.

I think other churches like Life, City Impact and C3 etc will be going "Oh, fuck." This was something they never banked on.

PS - good luck with the Gloriavale coverage. What a shitshow that place is. Gross.

We to assume from the MBIE response it was relating to abuse of migrant workers specifically? Which is new, is it not?

It’s hard to say at this point; I imagine they’ve dealt with migrants in the past as either interns or staff.

"And we would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you meddling Farrier!" .. in other mega church oddities, as driving past City Impact Church Mt Wellington it says their morning Saturday "event" is now in the Hoyts Cinema. So. Weird.

Yes interesting. Had some (non religious) dealings with City impact Mt Wellington. It’s huge, seats around 2000...a Hoyts cinema seats max of 400! Maybe it’s too embarrassing to have so few people to their main weekly event.. They like a bit of obfuscation. I see they hold the evening event at the normal venue... but perhaps it’s in one of their seminar rooms. ... where they also teach moral values ( apparently)

Ooh yeah, they would be much smaller. Are they trying to advertise at the mall and pull people in at the same time, yuck! I imagine their punters have definitely dropped and I hope we see that site and billboards go.
