Really liked your submission to the inquiry David. Simple and honours all those who have confided in you. One can only wish that Pathfinder would stand up for the Arise victims as much as you have...
Thanks - I am just so curious if this all leads to anything. John Cameron and the likes of Graeme on the board will have a plan on how things get to change as little for them as humanly possible.
Oh and your submission to pathfinder is excellent… I like what you said about Jesus… I’ve always thought that those types of churches do nothing that resembles the historical person they say they worship, and what he stood for. I actually like “ historical Jesus” can’t stand churches lol!
I love the concept of the Flightless Bird banner! Truly, and in spite of my patriotic love of the Kiwi, it is indeed a most useless bird. But I will say that in some ways it is a decent reflection of many NZers…curious, night-loving, somewhat bumbling, survivalist, a little on the round side (ok that bit is just me) :)
I've had those imagines buzzing around in my head for awhile and it seemed like time to let them out. Honestly - the communication from the board has been diabolical. Graeme will directly tell me "Can't answer that!" (ie fuck off, David) and then it just pops up in the FAQ at some point.
Looking forward to the podcast - how is it you as an Aucklander (I’m assuming) can roll your r’s like someone from Invercargill; never noticed that before. Ps - hard dingers has to be American slang right?
My best friend at school was down from Gore way. His accent stuck to my Northland accent and I've never been able to get rid of it (not that I want to)
That does pose an interesting question on how many accents NZ English actually has. Everyone knows of the regional Southland accent but what others are there?
I’m thinking there’s at least general NZ English, Māori English, Pasifika & regional Southland accents.
Maybe something to explore with a linguist in a future Webworm?
Congrats on the podcast coming out! I do wonder if by some miracle (lol) John and Gillian stepped down from arise they would just set up shop again and continue on their bullshit? It seems like if you’re the type of megalomaniac to set up your own church you’d just do it again?
David, you’re really kicking butt and I’m so happy for you. I’m beyond excited for Flightless Bird, is there anything better than the opportunity for more David Farrier?!! Though I’ve read all of the Arise pieces I haven’t commented, It’s hard to know what to say in response to all the atrocities you describe, and the comments section has been full of heartbreaking and or enlightening words I just try to absorb and process… it’s disturbing and infuriating to know these archaic realms of reality exist today, you’re wonderful going after them. I can’t imagine the things you have to read and hear and carry with you in doing so, seems a bit lame to say well done, but I hope you can feel a small bit of pride in knowing you’ve made a difference.
Dax and Monica are the fucking best to be giving you more airtime, I can never get enough of your wit and insight into the bizarre, intriguing, and genuinely interesting topics you explore. So so excited for Flightless Bird, congratulations, I’m sure it will be a success. Thanks for all you do x
This is all very kind and makes me feel happy and - THANK YOU. Appreciate you being a part of this Webworm thing and always hitting me with good vibes.
Because podcasts are weird and you think the hosts are your friends😜 I was so happy that my “friends” Dax and Monica and Wobby Wob took such good care of you. 🤦🏻♀️ I listened since day 1 and it makes my heart so happy that Dax said pitch me a show and let’s do it. Okay enough about me and being so happy my friends are your friends 😉 Another brilliantly written article with humour and heart, compassion and dare I say it, a Christ like approach to people. Like one of your followers said, in the biggest twist of fate, david you are doing The Lord’s work. Thank you.
That is the best thing about podcasts - I am totally with you! I have listened to this film podcast - called The Filmcast these days - and the three of then feel like buddies. It's so strange! The wonder of the format, I think - just having these people in your ears as you go about your personal life.... for YEARS!
Congratulations on the new podcast David - looking forward to listening ❤️ thank you for all of your mahi on Arise, I know it must have been really emotionally draining.

I picture a coffee meeting. Brent puts out his hand for a handshake. The person he's meeting with looks at it uncomfortably.
*vomits*
...ok so that comment made me laugh-choke on my muesli...
or says "Daks off, Brenty, I know what you're into" I dont care that this is a Starbucks!
Can’t wait to hear this!

Yeah - it's just wild how many one running them thinks they are being Christian. It's just so utterly unhinged.

Good and valuable work on the "church" once again David,
Looking forward to flightless Bird. !!
So excited for you re: new podcast - and can't wait to listen!

David, I feel like a broken record but, as always: LOVE your work!
Your heart, willingness to push through.. just everything! Legend.
And can’t wait for Flightless Bird!
THANKS JESSE! \m/
Thanks, David, for another great post. I too really like what you sent to Pathfinder. The Death Star, Emperor, etc. metaphor made me laugh!

There’s a ‘Northland’ accent?

I guess by accent I mean... no accent?! Haha.
After the 10am vs 2pm fiasco, I'd be almost too scared to get into accents on here (I actually think it's a really good idea)
I always wondered why you had that Southland r! Now I know.
JAFA here..
Rolled r's can be learnt i think. I practiced fervently as a kid, and its helped with pronunciation in other languages (Te Reo, Español, Khmer, etc)

I imagine the grifter is gonna keep on grifting.
So - yes. He will hate losing power, and he will want it back in any setting he can get it. Including a new church.
What, I have to learn about how to listen to a podcast now?
Best just pick up a book, I reckon. Fair.

Love the theme song 😍😍 can’t wait for the first episode!!
Bob, as usual, nailed it!
agreed, the theme song is just the coolest

It went on a bit longer than expected. And still does...!
Hey - so glad you are on Substack. Good company to keep.
