Yes! I saw Health play in 2009 (maybe 2010..?) in Christchurch!

The possum was a warning from Trent on not to share the track. Then he came back and moved it back a little bit because he likes you and knows you walk around with bare feet.

The dead possum was prolly dragged off by coyotes. Even though you’re in a city, they’re everywhere. Sometimes they’re real brazen and you’ll see them wandering through someone’s backyard at night looking for small animals (that includes dogs and cats) or trash. A lot of people think the coyotes just hang out in the hills and mountains, but they’re in the urban areas too.

There’s a great scene of a coyote in Michael Mann’s film Collateral. They were filming in downtown LA and the coyote decided to make a cameo.

Coyotes are incredibly smart animals, and have the well earned reputation of tricksters.

Because of LA’s sprawl, people have built neighborhoods in the territory of wildlife. I’ve come across them when I’ve been hiking and they just looked at me. They look so much like dogs that it’s tempting to pet them. Don’t. I’ve also come across a bobcat during one of my hikes. Also very cute looking. Also, not for petting.

My point is just let them be and they’ll let you be. If you do come across wildlife while you’re out and about, do it a favor and yell at it. Scaring it away keeps their instinct to be afraid of humans intact, and probably saves their life in the long run. Also, don’t let pets out without a leash. There’s a reason why there are so many missing dog posters near Runyon Canyon.

Btw, there’s also a cougar living in Griffith Park, in the middle of the city. Another wild animal you don’t want to pet.

Ahhhh this is such good news!! Can't wait to hear the track. Huge NIN fan here (Trent is probably my favourite artist of all time) and I've been digging HEALTH albums lately too (especially Vol. 4: Slaves of Fear, for some reason). Great stuff.

I hope we'll see a new NIN album some time too, apparently that's what Trent wants to focus on after doing all the recent film work.

One other thing that would be really cool in the near future (since I've started a wishlist) are vinyl re-releases of Year Zero and The Slip - they've been sitting on NIN store web page as "coming soon" for quite some time, and considering how mind-blowing the other Definitive Editions are (The Fragile, TDS, With Teeth, etc.), I'm sure it'll be worth the wait.

the possum part cracked me up. dogs, cats, coyotes, maybe a fox? who knows who went after it.

my old dog once tried to befriend a possum like she would do with cats, and i thought she had killed it on accident. I totally forgot they play dead, until i went back out an hour later and it was gone.

Health and NIN?!! Holy Balls! That's gonna be AA+++....! Yep, got told by a friend who resides in California that coyotes are the likely culprit. They own various parts of the city at night, I am told. And I love Susan's advice re making sure they stay scared of the apex predator that is humans. But damn, I have to admit, I'd love to pet a cougar - but I never will. Coz we don't have them here in Aotearoa. Lucky for me. Stay safe over there!
