This was great! Can’t wait for part 2. Also, as a designer, her twitter post graphic is driving me insane.

Is plagiarized in $30

Million Obama biography.

Who thought it was a good idea to break up the text line like that?!?

Has anyone asked Anna if she’s ok? This smacks of a narcissism disorder and seems like she may also be living in a deeply deluded state. Her claims are beyond baseless, they’re inane in the extreme. I think this lady is sick and needs help.

Bless you David for another wild ride, can’t wait for part two!

PS how bloody good was your interview on Armchair Expert, I bloody loved it! A great meeting of minds.

Agree that she does need help, and those around her should step in. I am writing about it as it’s frustrating seeing other media enable her, and as you’ll see in part 2 - the legal wrangling costs people money. Not good.

Also - glad you dug the AE episode. Dax made it all very easy - and excellent host.

The legal wrangling is also likely legitimizing the issues in her mind so it’s a twofer in terms of fucked up bullshit. Definitely not good.

Would anyone be brave enough to ask her? If David’s informal and friendly ‘back at ya’ got the response it did, imagine what would happen if you enquired after her mental health. She’d likely go off!

I did a google on "Obama photos looking down smiling". Quickly found one from 2010 - told her (on Twitter) that based on her argument, she was breaking someone else's copyright! ;)

She would *not* like that...

When I wrote about the Covid-rumour guy and said that I had folders on my computer dedicated to other people I've researched, lots of people asked "who?!" - well, this is one of them :)

Get the folder out, Dylan, looks like you've got work to do here.

Oh god, I've just been reading her Twitter for an hour. What is wrong with me? Among her claims: Oprah stole her idea for "The Oprah Conversation". And she also stated just after Steve Bing's death that she was once the vice president of his production company, guessing Shangri-La entertainment? Over and out.

This is like de ja vu... We had had to threaten to take Anna Wilding to court over false claims and libelous statements she made against our company where she claimed that we had stolen her IP and copied a product range that she brought out 12 months after our products were on the market.

The only annoying thing with legal threats is that you usually have to pay a lawyer to write a reply! That sucks and really gets old after awhile. It's also how the rich abuse the legal system. Ridiculous stuff.

Expand full comment
Beck's avatar

Yeah that is such a pain. I have heard a few examples lately of the legal system being fundamentally stacked in the favour of those with funds. Pretty distressing. Maybe we can add a legal contribution component to our subscriptions 😀

Love your articles, David. In a time when there is so much uncritical pap spewing out on the net your stuff is a breath of fresh air. I wait the next instalment with great anticipation.

Intriguingly Anna's foundation wildingfoundation.co.nz is now an online clothes shop registered just a couple of days ago - but maybe that's a sign of you as an influencer!

Also it seems that someone attempted to challenge the accuracy of her wiki page back in January this year (Aucklandboy1981) but that was overturned by the moderators as looking like an attack. I guess it's difficult to change a narrative as entrenched as Anna's seems to be. But maybe we'll hear more about that soon....

I'm fascinated by this story because I know what it is like dealing with a delusional narcissist with a litigious nature. They are always the victim, never the villain (in their eyes), however my experience suggests it is the other way around. Unless I too am a delusional narcissist .... hmmm

This was a rollercoaster of a read. I don't know if you've ever heard of cockygate, which is where romance author, Faleena Hopkins (who was also an actress/photographer/filmmaker) managed to trademark the word cocky, causing all kinds of chaos in the romance community. This whole thing gave me vibes of that.
