I've been buzzing out over Simulation Theory ever since your initial webworm about it.
Last night I was getting ready to play a show and stood in the bathroom applying makeup, listening to the latest Chills' album. It sounded almost otherworldly and got me thinking about how - if we are in a simulation, then Martin Phillips' music is a culmination of all of the experiences that his simulation has been through, and here I am, privileged to be listening to that! It struck me how unique it really is, because while there could be other realities out there where there is a Martin Phillips who creates music, I doubt any of them would ever result in this exact album that I was listening to last night.
It also reminded me of an art exhibition I attended while studying, where there was an AI that had been programmed to create music in a similar way that a living person might. It didn't quite sound organic - But when you listened to it it was still stunningly strange and beautiful.
Somehow I am feeling really oddly comforted by this whole theory, in a way that is reducing my anxiety. Perhaps in the way a follower of a religion might, when they give themselves up to their 'creator'?
Anyway, rambling thoughts... That just keep rambling...
This is hands down the greatest thing I've ever read over my morning coffee. Chuck, David, Marko, foot models, well-written fourth-wall-breaking non-erotic meta fiction... just perfect.
Having no prior knowledge or frame of reference for, well, any of this, I am not entirely certain where I am now. I will say that, while I was not high before reading this, I may be slightly high after reading. The Kazam/Shazam thing spoke to me particularly. So, well, congrats, David, for being worthy of whatever this universe is.
All of mankind led up to this moment. The discovery of fire, the invention of the wheel, the landing on the moon, the Internet, and now this story and you being on the cover.
Perfect story to brighten my day. Congrats to you for your dream coming true, and thank you to Mr. Tingle for the story.

This is the best thing I have ever read. The little details are what makes it! The ever-changing title of the game show, Bax offhandedly mentioning his anthropology degree, the incorporation of Marko...pure genius. How is he so good at being *so* funny and poignant at the same time??
