The Curious Case of Robert Purchase

The 10.06pm amendment on Stuff.co.nz, and what it says about trust in sources

Robert Purchase
Webworm will explain the significance of this photo shortly.

Hi,

I am always curious how news organisations cope with retractions or amendments to stories – and a pretty good one happened over at Stuff (New Zealand's biggest news site) at 10.06pm on Friday:

"Man who applied for almost 8000 jobs had been in prison in US"

The headline was interesting, but not that interesting. And it certainly wouldn't have been on many people's radars at 10.06pm when it was published.

10.06pm is where you post things to die.
