Hi,
I got a lot of very intense feedback on social media this week about milk — and I want to talk about it.
But first, some quick updates on some other Webworm things.
1. The Telepathy Tapes
You may recall my story about how the chart-topping podcast The Telepathy Tapes was nothing more than a front for incredibly fringe Christian beliefs. To be honest I’m surprised that my story didn’t spread further (it may still, feel free to share it: www.webworm.co/p/trojanhorse).
My update is that the stars of The Telepathy Tapes continue to grift like crazy. Katie Asher is launching a new podcast called The Podcast Of Heaven, and Pastor Joe Infranco has a new book deal. It never ends.
2. Arise Church’s John Cameron Is Back In The Headlines
I was recently interviewed by Rebecca Hopkins for The Roys Report about the “comeback” of Arise church’s John Cameron. The story details what John’s been up to since fleeing to Australia, and the network of church leaders enabling him.
The Roys Report is a Christian outlet fearlessly reporting on the seedy underbelly of churches and affiliated groups, “so the church can be reformed and restored.” They do incredible work, recently breaking the story of former DC Talk and Newsboys singer Michael Taite grooming and assaulting people for the last two decades. Time to throw out my DC Talk t-shirts.
It’s important to keep on top of cockroaches like John Cameron, and I’m really grateful for the reporting Hopkins has done.
Of course, looking at an Instagram post about the story I see the usual kind of suspects flooding in — those saying there’s “room for redemption”, utterly ignoring the fact John Cameron has taken zero ownership of his abuse, or come close to apologising to victims.
For me, this was a reminder of how toxic these types of churches are.
3. Webworm Meetups in Denver, Chicago and New York
If you’re a Webworm member who happens to live in Denver and Chicago, I am going to be doing some very informal meet-ups with readers (aka Worms) over the next few weeks.
And I am organising a Tickled screening at a very special theatre in New York.
All the details will be added here, as I sort them out.
Okay — milk.
