Mister Organ Coming to US Cinemas
A quick update about Mister Organ - and I head to "The Villages" for Flightless Bird!
Hi,
I’m really excited to announce that Mister Organ will be released in US cinemas later this year.
It’s been ages since Tickled played in the US — and I fondly remember how weird that shit got:
As reported in Variety today:
Drafthouse Films has acquired three films that it will release theatrically in U.S. theaters followed by digital releases across major streaming platforms.
They include “Mister Organ,” a documentary from journalist and filmmaker David Farrier, whose 2016 film “Tickled” explored the dark underbelly of “competitive endurance tickling,” will be released in theaters this fall.
As he turns his camera on another stranger than fiction story, Farrier finds himself caught in an increasingly dangerous game of cat and mouse with a mysterious character who expertly manipulates the lives of anyone who dares to expose his secrets.
The film was produced by Emma Slade, Firefly Films, Alex Reed, Bloom Pictures and Farrier. It was executive produced by Ant Timpson, Mubi’s Bobby Allen & Efe Cakerel. It was a critical and audience favorite at Fantastic Fest 2022, and has become a box office hit in Farrier’s native New Zealand.
“I am incredibly happy to be working with Drafthouse Films,” said Farrier “Watching this funny, disturbing, and deeply weird documentary with an audience is the way to see it. It has been seven years since ‘Tickled,’ so I am more than ready to do a little in-person roadtrip of America and present some of these screenings in person.”
[…]
“Audiences are asking for more genre films and encouraging filmmakers to push their limits. All three of these movies are horrors, including ‘Mister Organ’ and ‘The YouTube Effect,’ where real life is actually scarier than fiction,” says Ahbra Perry, who heads theatrical acquisitions for Drafthouse Films.
Founded in 2010, Drafthouse Films was launched by League, who also created the Alamo Drafthouse chain of theaters.
The short version: Mister Organ will be playing in various cinemas across America later this year — including in one of my favs, the Alamo Drafthouse (see — Flightless Bird: Movies). It will be available on demand not too long after.
I will be attending a bunch of these screenings in person (a bit like I did in New Zealand), and will keep you informed here on Webworm about the details as we figure them out! I think this documentary is fun “enjoyed” with a crowd.
Rest of world: stay tuned. As always, information will come via Webworm when I have it!
In other news — there’s a new Flightless Bird out today about The Villages, America’s largest retirement community. 120,000 elderly people all in the one place. Chaos.
Talk soon. I will be around today to answer any questions you might have in the comments.
David.
Congrats on US distribution! I can't wait to see see Mister Organ!
Congratulations David!!! I’m so happy for you and this film! I’ll be even more joyous when it plays in a Canadian Theatre near me 😉
